Scythe is considered by many to be one of the best board games out there, and it’s easy to see why. It combines several popular mechanisms such as action selection, resource management, engine building, and area control and creates an exceptional experience. Each player starts the game with a unique player board and a faction with asymmetric powers. The goal is to be the first player to complete any 6 out of 10 possible achievements.

One of the best features of Scythe is the way actions work. Player boards are divided into four different sections, each with top and bottom actions. You can never take the bottom action before the top one and cannot choose the same section two turns in a row. These limitations make planning ahead and executing the correct sequence of actions an essential part of your strategy.
Asymmetry is another strong feature of Scythe. Factions feel and play differently, and each player board has different top and bottom actions paired together. This variability is a huge plus and makes every game unique. At the same time, players may need to play a few times before mastering the game.

Combat is also a possibility in Scythe. The combat mechanics are simple and not necessarily exciting, but this is not the game’s primary focus. Players can win a game without a single combat, but the tension is always there as being in a vulnerable position and losing a battle can be costly.
Let’s not forget the artwork! Scythe’s gorgeous artwork, with a unique style and distinctive illustrations on most cards, makes this game one of the most beautiful ones on the market.

Overall, Scythe is a masterpiece that is fun, engaging, beautiful, and deep. If you’re looking for a game you can play for a long time, Scythe is an excellent choice.
What are your thoughts on Scythe? What’s your favorite mechanism in the game?
