Wingspan has become one of the most popular games over the past few years, with a lot of content available, including three expansions. The latest addition to the Wingspan collection is the Fan Art Pack.

A while ago, Stonemaier Games announced the idea of a promo pack for Wingspan, featuring card illustrations from fans. They asked for submissions and pledged to donate $1 for each printed pack to a bird-related charity—a lovely idea. Finally, the pack became available for purchase in late 2023.

This pack includes 255 cards but does not affect Wingspan’s gameplay or add any new elements since every card is a duplicate of an existing card in the base game or the expansions. You can either replace the existing cards or shuffle this pack into the main deck. The only impact to consider when shuffling everything together is on the bonus cards. Since some bird cards will have two copies in the deck, the balance of bonus cards could be slightly affected.

Most of these cards feature gorgeous and unique artwork in various styles. Interestingly, many of the illustrations in this pack are not limited to just the center like all other Wingspan cards; they cover the entire card. This creates visual variety and makes the game even more beautiful than before.

I wish the pack came with new cards instead of replacing existing cards. However, I see how that could make the project much bigger than it was.

In summary, this pack doesn’t add any new gameplay elements but introduces visual variety. If you don’t care about the latter, this pack is not for you but if you enjoy Wingspan and would like to add a touch of visual appeal, you cannot go wrong with this pack. It can also be a fantastic gift for someone who loves Wingspan.
