Saltfjord is all about gathering and manipulating resources, upgrading your player board through tile placement, and drafting dice to activate actions on those tiles.The playtime is fairly short, and the rules are straightforward, but the game is heavier than it seems, especially when it comes to the timing of your actions and placing tiles on your board. As the game goes on, you get more dice and more tiles, so even though the game is only three rounds and you get 15 dice in total, you manage to get a lot more done in the later rounds.The game has a few mechanics that mix things up. Each player starts with a rule-breaking power and can gain another one during the game. With technology upgrades, you can make your actions more powerful and unlock more scoring opportunities. And through sailing and collecting randomized fishing tokens, you can gather resources and score points.Overall, this game is quite fun and an excellent option if you are looking for a medium-weight game that plays fairly quickly. It also comes with a great solo mode, so it can be a good option for solo sessions as well.What are your thoughts? Have you played Cozy Stickerville?  This game is Have you played Cozy Stickerville? This game is the definition of cozy! There is no winning or losing. You play through 10 years, which translates into 10 sessions of around 40 to 50 minutes each, and gradually build a village. There are some long-term goals, but you do not even have to pursue them. The choices are entirely yours. If you have played the video game Townsmen, this experience will feel very familiar. I was addicted to that game years ago, and Cozy Stickerville taps into exactly the same feeling. That is a style of game I enjoy a lot, and it definitely played a role in why I fell in love with this one.The rulebook is only 4 pages, and it is very easy to get started. You are faced with choices in every session, and some have consequences down the road, but you are free to choose whatever you want. This game can be played solo or multiplayer. The experience is identical whether you play solo or with a group. I played it solo and enjoyed it immensely.Heavy games are my usual preference, but I cannot say enough good things about this one. My nostalgia for video games of this type may have played a role, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The sense of progression, seeing your village grow, the freedom to do whatever you want, the short length of the campaign, and the beautiful artwork created one of the best gaming experiences I have had. It truly lives up to its name. Have you played Dewan? Dewan is an area-placement Have you played Dewan?Dewan is an area-placement and racing game for 2-4 players and one of the best light releases of 2025. The rules are simple, the game plays quickly, and the artwork is excellent.In Dewan, each player starts the game with 9 camps (one already placed on their starting tile) and a hand of cards. On your turn, you can either build a camp or pick two cards from the display to add to your hand. In order to build camps, you need to play cards from your hand matching the terrains of the hexes you are crossing. As you build these camps, you get to add objective tiles and cards to your board. Most of your points come from the tiles and different types of set collection (from icons, terrains, adjacencies, etc.). As soon as one player builds their last camp, the end of the game is triggered.That's almost everything you need to know to start playing the game. It can be explained in a couple of minutes and is very accessible. The game comes with a few scenarios that add a bit more complexity, and there are a few icons you need to get familiar with, but overall the game is very easy to get to the table.The board is modular, and the setup changes based on the number of players. There is also some randomness in the terrain layout, as the board tiles are placed randomly. The scenarios also add variety and introduce new strategies.As you can see in the pictures, the artwork looks beautiful, and the game comes with premium components and recessed boards. In terms of presentation and production quality, the game leaves little to be desired.If you are looking for a quick and fun light game for lighter sessions or to play with those new to the hobby, Dewan can be an excellent choice.Please keep in mind that we received a review copy of this game.#boardgame #boardgames #tabletop
It's only April, but Castle Nightingale will be on It's only April, but Castle Nightingale will be one of the best two-player releases of 2026.This game is incredibly fun. One player takes the role of the ninjas trying to steal valuables from the castle, and the other player is the samurai trying to catch the ninjas. With asymmetric powers and rule-breaking equipment, each player seeks victory with conditions specific to their character.During the programming phase, each player secretly picks a card that has a movement value and, most of the time, an action. But the samurai also picks a nightingale tile. During the ninja phase, if a ninja steps on a floor space with the same color as this tile, they are spotted by the samurai and at risk of being captured.Every single game turn is tense for both players. You have no idea what your opponent might do. You need to make a guess, make the best use of your actions and equipment, try to trick your opponent, and set yourself up for future turns. Sometimes, you have a perfect plan, but your opponent flips an equipment token that ruins it all. Sometimes, you are in a tough spot, but you manage to pull off a miracle. This alone makes the game fun and exciting. That said, it will take at least a few plays to figure out everything your opponent can do and plan your moves more effectively.If you enjoy 2-player games, make sure to check this game out. The rules are unclear at times, and the game will take a few plays to master, but when you do figure it out, it's a lot of fun. It's a game you will want to play again right after you finish playing it, and considering its playtime is around 30–40 minutes, multiple back-to-back plays are easily possible.What are your thoughts?
