It's only April, but Castle Nightingale will be on It's only April, but Castle Nightingale will be one of the best two-player releases of 2026.This game is incredibly fun. One player takes the role of the ninjas trying to steal valuables from the castle, and the other player is the samurai trying to catch the ninjas. With asymmetric powers and rule-breaking equipment, each player seeks victory with conditions specific to their character.During the programming phase, each player secretly picks a card that has a movement value and, most of the time, an action. But the samurai also picks a nightingale tile. During the ninja phase, if a ninja steps on a floor space with the same color as this tile, they are spotted by the samurai and at risk of being captured.Every single game turn is tense for both players. You have no idea what your opponent might do. You need to make a guess, make the best use of your actions and equipment, try to trick your opponent, and set yourself up for future turns. Sometimes, you have a perfect plan, but your opponent flips an equipment token that ruins it all. Sometimes, you are in a tough spot, but you manage to pull off a miracle. This alone makes the game fun and exciting. That said, it will take at least a few plays to figure out everything your opponent can do and plan your moves more effectively.If you enjoy 2-player games, make sure to check this game out. The rules are unclear at times, and the game will take a few plays to master, but when you do figure it out, it's a lot of fun. It's a game you will want to play again right after you finish playing it, and considering its playtime is around 30–40 minutes, multiple back-to-back plays are easily possible.What are your thoughts? Every player builds a colony for bees by gathering resources and building structures. The game continues until someone has 10 structures in their tableau.You start the game with 9 workers and have 3 more in the central supply. Some actions and structures reward workers from the supply, but building some structures requires returning workers to the supply. So, besides the standard resources in the game, your workers are also a resource for building structures, and managing them carefully is crucial. Worker placement locations are on a set of cards organized in rows. Unless you take an action to retrieve your workers or a row is fully occupied, the workers stay on these cards between turns.There are six types of resources in the game, and they can normally be gained by placing workers. However, many structures provide permanent resources that can be used to build more structures. If you have played Splendor, this mechanic will be familiar.Points are scored in different ways. Some structures have points printed on them, but others score based on the type of structures you have built or your resources at the end of the game. Balancing permanent resources and scoring points from structures is a big part of a winning strategy.The flow of the game is fast, the rules are fairly straightforward, and the component quality is great! Cards are of high quality, and each player gets a recessed board for keeping track of their resources.Overall, Propolis is a fun worker placement game for quick gaming sessions. Do you like this game?I know a lot of you are already backing the second Kickstarter campaign, but I'm just getting started with the base game! This game is incredible! I've always enjoyed heavy games, the heavier the better. Voidfall is one of the heaviest games out there and really works your brain. And I love that!There are a lot of rules to learn, but once they click, everything makes perfect sense. The tutorial is excellent and does a great job of giving you this information slowly and step by step.There is a lot of variety in the game: many scenarios (solo, cooperative, and competitive), 14 houses with unique rules and strategies, and many different technologies, galactic events, and so on. There are so many combinations that I don't think I'll ever manage to play them all!The artwork is fantastic, the iconography is clear, and the production quality is great. This game leaves little to be desired! It's worth mentioning that setup and teardown are quite involved and take time. So, an organization solution is a must.I'm just starting to explore the game and can't wait to see how every single house plays.The reprint of the game and a new expansion for it are in the final hours of the campaign on Kickstarter. If you enjoy heavy strategy games and haven't tried Voidfall, make sure to check it out.What are your thoughts? Have you played Vantage? This game is all about Have you played Vantage? This game is all about exploration! You move from location to location, interact with NPCs, find animals and items, and discover more about the world. There are nearly 800 locations in the game. Almost all actions are skill checks that cost resources, and as the game goes on, you build a 3x3 grid of cards that can house dice and help you preserve your resources and prolong your exploration. The dice mechanic is clever, and that sense of progress as you build your grid is satisfying.There's little overall structure and no long-term planning or strategy. This is not a campaign game, and there's no overarching story, just small storylines and quests. I adore the exploration aspect of the game. It captures the same feeling as wandering off the main path in an open-world video game. But if you need a strong narrative, Vantage won't provide that. There's also little player interaction, so this game works best as a solo experience or with two players. I wouldn't want to wait for my turn in a 6-player or even a 4-player game!The component quality is excellent, as expected from Stonemaier Games. The game comes with over 1,300 cards, and the artwork on the location cards is beautiful. Vantage is a unique game and probably unlike any board game you've experienced. If you love exploration and the thrill of not knowing what's around the next corner, you'll have a great time with this game.What are your thoughts?
